Judge Orders Drug Dealer To Pay For Funeral Of Overdose Victim He Sold Drugs To

A judge in Cincinnati, Ohio has ordered a convicted drug dealer to pay for the funeral expenses of an overdose victim he sold drugs to. U.S. District Judge Michael Barrett ordered a total of $9,000 in restitution from 29-year-old Michael Chandler along with almost 17 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to drug distribution charges.

The victim was identified as J.H. in court documents and is known to have been 17-years-old at the time of his death in April 2016. J.H. died after buying drugs from Chandler causing him to overdose on an extremely powerful opioid called fentanyl. He was found dead in his home in Campbell County, Kentucky and police traced the fentanyl that killed him back to the defendant, Michael Chandler.

When a search warrant was issued for Chandler's home the police found a large amount of fentanyl, cocaine, guns, and ammunition along with various drug paraphernalia. Chandler was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Monday and will also have to pay for the $9,000 including funeral expenses.
