Over 450 Victims Of The Las Vegas Shooting Are Suing

As expected, victim's of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock are suing over his deadly attack arguing the hotel and festival organizers failed to adequately protect the Route 91 concertgoers who were the target of the attack.

Five lawsuits were filed Monday against MGM Resorts International and Live Nation Entertainment by lawyers representing 450 victims of the shooting. The lawsuit also names the Paddock estate after shooter Stephen Paddock killed 58 and injured another 500.

The lawsuits are the latest in a legal barrage levied against the businesses and others who allegedly contributed to the severity of the attack in avoidable ways. The victims in the lawsuit range from those who suffered gunshot wounds, trampling as well as those afflicted by post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from the attack.

Muhammad Aziz is a Houston-based personal injury lawyer who is part of the group representing the victims and he says, "Each one of them has a unique story." Since most of the victims were from and treated in California, the lawsuit was filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court.

The attack occurred late on October 1, 2017, when Stephen Paddock opened fire from a sniper perch setup in the Mandalay Bay hotel. The targets were concertgoers attending the Route 91 Country Music Festival in Las Vegas Nevada. Mandalay Bay staff are accused of not properly monitoring the hotel allowing the stockpile of assault weapons to be amassed, to begin with, and then failed to respond to the attack in a timely manner.

The MGM Resorts dispute these claims saying, "These kinds of lawsuits are not unexpected and we intend to defend ourselves against them,” the company said. “That said, out of respect for the victims, we will give our response through the appropriate legal channels."
