Breaking news coming out of Newark, Delaware in which local police officers were responding to a domestic disturbance in the Pike Creek area when a gunman barricaded himself inside a home and opened fire on responding police officers.
Authorities are telling all civilians to avoid the perimeter of Capital Trail between both Farmer's Market and Polly Drummond Hill, where officers are taking cover behind emergency vehicles.

Capital Trail is closed in both directions from Meadowood Drive to Upper Pike Creek Drive, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Radio broadcast suggest that the incident began at around 1:20 PM Eastern Time, around an hour ago from the time of this report.
It remains unclear as to whom the suspect is, or if police have any idea what type of firearms the gunman is using to shoot at them.
This is an ongoing active shooter situation, and the details are currently slim to none outside of police scanner details reporting that a SWAT Team is being dispatched to the scene on Lawrence Avenue where the suspect is still inside the residence.

As far as we know at this time no civilians or officers have been injured, and they're hoping for a resolution that doesn't involve a fatality of the suspect.
