In very rare cases do we hear of criminals who have the guts to impersonate police authorities, but when it happens its often dangerous as it gets. That was the case in Downey.
Its very easy to take the bait from a criminal who’s impersonating a police officer and that’s exactly what happened when a woman on the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway was signaled to pullover by a man who was posing as a law enforcement officer, little did she know that he a was phony patrol officer.
It turns out that the impostor was up to no good as he went ahead and sexually assaulted the woman. Investigators have managed to release a sketch the man.
The heinous crime was conducted around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 on the eastbound side of the freeway west of Lakewood Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A report released by CHP reveals that the suspect "inappropriately touched the woman under the guise of a search.” The victim described the suspect as a Hispanic, who’s in his early 30s, 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 inches tall and 200 pounds. The sketch provided by the CHP also shows that the man is bald.
He was also dressed in a dark-colored, long-sleeve uniform-style shirt and tan pants. The shirt had shoulder patches, a silver star-type badge and a silver name tag and the suspect also wore a black police-type utility belt with a pistol and other equipment attached.
The impostor’s car was described as a black four-door sedan, possibly a Ford Crown Victoria, which had a red-and-blue emergency light mounted inside the windshield at the rear view mirror and a spotlight mounted on the left side. His front and rear side windows were also tinted.
