Last Of The Funny Dictators Disappears With Mugabe

Robert Mugabe, the 93-year old dictator of Zimbabwe who clang to power for almost 4 decades, is now under house arrest while his 50-year-old wife has reportedly fled the country.

Details will become clear over the following days and weeks as to what it to come to one of the (once) most developed economies in Africa which under Mr Mugabe became one of the poorest, but I for one will miss one of the last great, and funny, dictators.

Yes, I totally understand that for the people of Zimbabwe this was not really pleasurable, but after having seen Gaddafi (Libya), Mobutu (Zaire), Hussein (Iraq) and Mubarak (Egypt) getting removed, Mugabe was pretty much the last hope of dictator movie scriptwriters worldwide. In 40 years in power, the man made for some great quotes, sound bites and clips.

He ran the white farmers away from their lands and gave their farms to his cronies. The economy went completely belly-up while kids lived the high life. He was all that Sacha Baron-Cohen portrayed in his film ‘The Dictator.’

When he was younger, Mr Mugabe was quite the ladies man, and said: “Sometimes you look back at girls you spent money on rather than send it to your mum & you realize witchcraft is real.”

He wasn’t a great fan of Barack Obama either, who had criticized him for not allowing same-sex marriage in Central Africa. Mr Mugabe said: “If President Barack Obama wants me to allow marriage for same-sex couples in my country, he must come here so that I marry him first.”

He also reached the high age of 93 and claims to have died repeatedly: “I have died many times. I have actually beaten Jesus Christ because he only died once.”

In 2016, during a press conference together with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, he fell asleep while standing.

And in one of his more astonishing moves, he once imprisoned a gay Zimbabwe couple and told the two men that they would be released as soon as one of them got pregnant.
