Video - Australian Carjacking Police Chase Ends In Canal

Two criminals, wanted over a series of carjackings and armed robberies, were arrested in Australia today when their chase ended in a dramatic run into a canal.

The footage was taken from a police helicopter and shows the two men (aged 24 and 26), first trying to escape in a car, then pursuing on foot until they have not much further to run and are arrested in the Wollongong canal.

According to police reports, the duo had committed several violent crimes over the weekend, traveling through the Riverina and Hume district in southern New South Wales in various stolen cars. Police at first got hold of them when there were driving a stolen Nissan Patrol utility vehicle, driving on the Hume motorway at Mittagong yesterday at about 10 pm local time.

Their car then rammed a marked police car near Colo Road, Colo Vale.

In another incident yesterday, the two hit a woman in the stomach with a firearm during an aggravated breaking and entering.

Today police caught up with them again when they were spotted in a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander, which was first spotted at Picton, in Sydney's south-west.

At that moment, police had been called to the area when the two criminals tried to rob a Subaru Impreza from a 41-year-old woman and her elderly parents, who are aged 80 and 84.

The 84-year old pensioner had to be taken for a shock to Bowral Hospital.

After the unsuccessful robbery, they got back in their car and noticed police coming towards them. The helicopter was able to film them as from that point. You will see the car mounting a kerb and running over an electrical sub-station, which caused a loss of power in the area of Picton's main street. The criminals then get out of the car and try to get away on foot, but are quickly apprehended when they reach a canal.
