Video: Mafia Gangster Breaks Nose Of Journalist On Italian TV

Though all Italians know deep down that there is a serious problem in their country as to organized crime, known as La Cosa Nostra or the mafia, the citizens of ‘the old country’ prefer to talk of wine, good food, the pope or the renaissance painters and just pretend that it doesn’t exist.

But last week they had no choice but to admit that they might have a problem indeed.

The brother of a jailed member of the mafia was being interviewed by national TV station RAI when Mr Roberto Spada, who was eager to get into the gym, apparently didn’t much like the question that was being posed.

He thus, on national TV, broke the nose of the journalist and chased his television crew with a baton. During the ordeal, the cameraman kept filming whilst the attack took place.

The mayor of Rome, Miss Virginia Raggi tweeted the video of the attack, stating that: "The Spada clan's violence is unacceptable. Solidarity with the journalist and film-maker of @NemoRai2 attacked in Ostia. We will stop crime and extremism in Rome."

Given the violence, there are plans for an anti-violence march in the town of Ostia, the seaside resort some 14 miles from Rome where the attack took place. The Ostia town council was replaced in full two years ago already because local judges said it had been infiltrated by the mafia.

Mr Spada’s brother is jailed for 10 years for extortion and mafia links.
