Though everyone in Japan agrees that the US Presidential visit was a great success for the land of the rising sun and that everything went by without a hiccup, the Japanese conservative media are now irked by the details of the state dinner that South Korea threw in President Trump’s honor.
As we told you, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe went the whole nine yards to please his good friend President Trump on his visit, for example by serving him a burger for lunch before the two leaders golfed.

South Korean President Moon’s approach was somewhat different. His wife personally prepared gifts for Trump’s wife Melania, including dried persimmon, while President Moon was also serving up a much more traditional meal compared to Abe at his dinner with Trump, including soybean soup, grilled beef ribs made with a special 360-year-old soy sauce, grilled fish, and a grilled prawn.
And it is exactly that grilled prawn which is causing problems.
In essence, South Korean chefs prepared a ‘Dokdo shrimp’ for the First Couple,

That means it is a prawn caught in the disputed waters just off the islands of Dokdo, which lie between Japan and South Korea.
The island, which called Japan claims is theirs and is called Takeshima in Japanese, has always been a controversy between Japan and South Korea, the two major US allies in Asia.
According to South Korea, the Dokdo island’s surrounding waters are the East Sea, while Japan says they are the Sea of Japan. You can understand why choosing a shrimp from that island can cause problems for the Japanese.
