Grindr Issues Statement After Employee Files Lawsuit Over Drugging And Rape

A Grindr employee accused an HR supervisor of raping him after slipping him a drug at a company Christmas party in 2016 earlier this week. The employee is suing Grindr over the rape and although the plaintiff is listed as John Doe, the lawsuit is very clear about who committed the rape.

In the lawsuit, the plaintiff claims Daniel Cabanero drugged him, loaded him into his car and drove him to a hotel where he anally penetrated him. The victim says he regained consciousness in the middle of the sex act but then blacked out again. He says he went to the hospital after waking up and was "subjected to a highly invasive and humiliating rape examination." He also reported the rape to the authorities who are conducting an investigation. The lawsuit alleges Grindr officers encouraged sexually explicit language, sexual innuendo and sexual misconduct. Today Grindr released a statement on the matter saying the accused is a staffer, not a supervisor.

"As soon as the company was notified about the alleged incident, we took immediate steps to investigate this matter in a compassionate and respectful way. In addition to conducting our own internal investigation, Grindr fully cooperated with the local authorities. We condemn all forms of sexual assault, harassment, and harmful behavior. We remain committed to cooperating with law enforcement and the legal process."
