Kevin Spacey has just lost his job in the political drama show “House of Cards” as Netflix fires him following allegations of sexual harassment.
Bosses at the streaming service have announced that Spacey who played disgraced president Frank Underwood in the political drama show will no longer be part of the sixth and final season. The dropping of Spacey from the show is, of course, affected by the mounting concerns and controversies created by what is described as the actor’s inappropriate sexual behavior.
The “House of Cards” is not the only casualty in Spacey’s career after the sexual harassment allegations exploded, but Netflix also decided to pull the plug on the actor for the movie Gore, a biopic on the author Gore Vidal.
It’s safe to safe Netflix has officially parted ways with Spacey, and apparently, would not want anything to do with the actor anymore.
The popular streaming service has also come out with a statement on their decision to drop Spacey. It read in part: “Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film “Gore” which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.”
The production of House of Cards stalled earlier this week following actor Anthony Rapp’s public confession of being a victim of sexual harassment perpetrated by Spacey. Rapp alleged that Spacey pinned him to a bed in his apartment when he was just 14 years old. Spacey has issued an apology to Rapp.
More anonymous co-workers have come forward and shared their stories of sexual harassment also perpetrated by Spacey.
Netflix bosses are closely working with the production people in deciding the fate of the show following the removal of Spacey. Reports say it is likely, though, that the show will be axed for good.
Spacey and co-star Robin Wright were in the middle of filming the third episode if the final season when production had to be stopped on Halloween because of the allegations of sexual misconduct hurled against Spacey.
Spacey has also been recently dropped by his publicist and agents at CAA. He announced he is seeking “evaluation and treatment” following the sexual abuse allegations against him.
