Boko Haram, the Islamist group that is Nigeria’s version of ISIS, continues to wreak havoc in Nigeria and Cameroon.
Three years ago, the group had kidnapped some 300 girls out of schools in Chibok and indoctrinated them with Islamic extremism. The case received worldwide attention when celebrities starting holding up signs stating ‘bring them back – Chibok girls’. At the time, even Michelle Obama chimed in.
This resulted in a pouring in of money to sponsor police and military in Cameroon and Nigeria to go look for the girls.
Though police were, after a yearlong search, able to rescue some 200 of them, a large group is still in the hands of the death cult. It now seems Boko Haram has started putting these girls to a terrible use.
Reports are coming in from Cameroon this morning that a young girl acted as a suicide bomber and put herself in between a group of playing children in front of a mosque at the border between Cameroon and Nigeria yesterday. She then detonated her bomb vest and blew up 5 innocent children and wounded 2 others.
Mayo Tsanaga prefect Mr Jean Daniel Djoboina commented: "A suicide bomber girl blew herself up at around 7.45 pm local time in front of a mosque. The attack killed six people, including five civilians and the young suicide bomber,"
Ever since 2014, when Cameroon officially went to war against Boko Haram, the jihadi group has killed “2,000 civilians and soldiers” and abducted more than “a thousand people” in the north of the country, near the border area with Nigeria, according to the International Crisis Group (ICG).
Furthermore, ever since its emergence eight years ago, Boko Haram is now known to have been responsible for the deaths of at least 20,000 people in Nigeria, Niger , Cameroon and Chad.
Just a month ago, Boko Haram was blamed for the ambush that killed 4 US soldiers.
