Bryan Clay aside from the murders of the mother and daughter is also accused of beating the woman’s husband so brutally that he ended up suffering from grave brain damage.
The lawyers presented their opening statements on Tuesday and Cray just sat with a stoic expression on his face.
Prosecutors will go out to prove that Cray killed Yadi and Karla Martinez, only 10 years old. The prosecution team also said that the accused used a hammer to attack Art Martinez, the father of the family.
Prosecutor Weckerly strongly outlined her case that will also use witnesses and present DNA evidence to prove Clay’s guilt. He also said that Art Martinez was so damaged by what Clay did that he was literally non-verbal and stayed in the hospital for weeks.
Tony Srgo, lawyer for the accused on the other hand, used his statement attempting to destroy the witnesses’ credibility and to undermine the reliability of scientific evidence.
Srgo told the jury:”Keep an open mind until the case has been completely submitted to you Have to get both sides of the story.”
If found guilty of the crimes, Clay could be dealt with the death penalty.
