The Castle View Elementary School near the Canyon Crest area of the city was put on lockdown at noon after the assault and the hostage situation wasn't resolved until police stormed the room to end the terrifying standoff. The angry parent entered the campus and punched a teacher, the victim was taken to the Riverside Community Hospital according to Fire Department officials. Then witnesses say the assailant, who has not yet been identified, barricaded himself in a classroom with first-grade teacher Linda Montgomery. Her daughter says she is in her 70's and has been teaching at the school for 20 years.

When the hostage situation first broke out and the school placed on lockdown, all students and staff were evacuated and accounted for with no other injuries to report. No information has been released regarding what this angry parent's motive may have been or if he specifically targeted Montgomery.

Riverside Police Officer Ryan Railsback says they were unsure if the suspect was armed but ultimately police officials made the decision to storm the room with flash bangs and the suspect was wheeled out of the school and placed in an ambulance to be taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.

Michelle Montgomery told NBC4 her mother wasn't injured and was only shaken by the harrowing crisis. Family of the suspect told reporters he had a "breakdown" and they had taken the man's car keys to prevent him from making it to the school but he found a way anyway although it is unclear how he arrived.
