Retired Houston Police Officer Sentenced To 3 Life Sentences For Sexually Assaulting Child

Retired Houston Police Officer Abel Diaz Rodriguez will spend the rest of his life in prison and then some after sexually assaulting a child. The jury found Rodriguez guilty of three first-degree offenses of sexually assaulting a child.

In 2014, Rodriguez forced the 14-year-old girl to choose between physical or sexual abuse according to a press release by Galveston County District Attorney Jack Roady. Prosecutors also say that Rodriguez showed a video depicting sexual acts that he had recorded in secret. Roady went on to describe the case on Facebook saying, "This was a heart-wrenching case." The retired officer will spend three life sentences in prison which will be served consecutively so unless he lives another 75 years it is unlikely he will ever be released.

The victim was afraid to come forward at first because of threats from Rodriguez that he was in law enforcement but finally did so in 2015 with the help of her sisters. The Associated Press reported that Rodriguez retired in 2007 after working 25 years as a Houston Police officer.
