A nightmare scenario came true for a young couple in Arlington when the woman's father drove up to them and shot her boyfriend repeatedly. Arlington Police say it happened as the couple was leaving a movie at the Arlington's Lincoln Square around 10 p.m. when the woman's father pulled up to them.
Arlington Police Lt. Christopher Cook says the shooter, "…confronted them really quickly, and just asked the boyfriend hey what's your name. He responded what his name was, and then he shot him multiple times." Friends of the victim have identified him as 22-year-old Omar Soto who died at the scene. Police say the attack was a complete surprise, "He actually backed up after the shooting and went to an aisle and deliberately ran over both of them as they were sitting there. That's how we were able to get suspect information out so quickly. She knew it was her father, was able to provide us a vehicle description."
The shooter was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a parking lot. Both the family of the victim and the employees in Lincoln Square were shocked by what happened. One worker said, "I'm surprised this is going on in Arlington, yet I shouldn't be because it is a big city and it's very diverse now."
Loved ones mourning Soto say he studied architecture at the University of Texas at Arlington and his brother confirmed he was working on a master's degree. Police say although the shooter is dead they are still working to find the answer for Soto's loved ones but the absence of any criminal record is making that difficult.
