An 18-year-old woman came forward saying that two NYPD officers had arrested her, then raped her before letting her go. The officers in question are Eddie Martins and Richard Halls, both are accused of having sex with the victim after arresting her in South Brooklyn. When confronted about the claims, the men said the sex was consensual, but it's hard to understand how sex, while one is under arrest, can be consensual.
Martins and Halls have been indicted on first-degree rape charges after a week-long hearing which ended in a grand jury voting on the matter Friday. The two officers will need to turn themselves in next week for arraignment in Brooklyn Supreme Court if convicted of the charges they are facing 25 years in prison. The incident happened on September 15 after the two deputies arrested her for marijuana, which is legal for medicinal use. The victim says they then drove to a restaurant chain parking lot in Coney Island and she was forced to perform oral sex on both men and was raped by Martins. The victim's attorney pushed for the two officers to be fired, "We would expect the police commissioner to take immediate action in firing these two officers."
The attorney representing the two men cited the provocative selfies the victim posted on social media as evidence she wasn't raped. Posting some pictures of yourself doesn't mean you can't be raped so they might want to get new attorneys.
