Robert Miner, a 27 year old man from Deerfield Beach stands accused of luring multiple women into joining his sex-trafficking operating which he ran across Interstate 95. He promised the girls lucrative positions as models, dancers and escorts but when they arrived he put their pictures of on backpage.com and forced them to work as prostitutes.
In one case, a 22 year old girl who he had picked up from a bus stop in Fort Lauderdale and told that she would be modeling swimsuits, was sexually assaulted at knifepoint before being forced to satisfy 100 male customers in only 4 days.
His online advertisements tricked women into relocating to “beautiful, sunny” South Florida, promising cars and a condo. Instead, upon arrival he kept them all as prostitutes in various motels around the Palm Beach area.
In May 2015, Mr Miner paid a homeless 18 year old girl’s plane ticket from Rochester, N.Y. to Fort Lauderdale. The young woman told police she was picked up from the airport and then driven to a DoubleTree Hotel in Palm Beach County, where she conducted at least 50 prostitution appointments over a period of two days.
In July 2106, he recruited a 19 year old girl to work in prostitution in both Palm Beach and Broward counties, including a La Quinta Inn.
Palm Beach Attorney General Ms Pam Bondi said: “The facts of this case are appalling, as is for anyone charged with forcing another human being into the sex trade.”
Mr Miner was charged with human trafficking, armed sexual battery and money laundering, as well as multiple charges related to running a prostitution business. If convicted, he could go to jail for life.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show that Mr Miner had already been arrested in Broward County for prostitution-charges in 2014. And in 2011, he had been placed on four years of probation after pleading no contest to attempted robbery in Coral Springs.
