The latest revelation in the case of a 3-year-old girl who was apparently left outside at 3 a.m. as punishment for not drinking her milk comes two days after the discovery of a body believed to be the girl and one day after the father's arrest. It turns out that Sherin Mathews step-father told police yesterday that she choked on a glass of milk and when he could not feel a pulse he removed her body from their home and dumped it a mile away.

The police arrested Mathews yesterday after he and his attorney went to police and told a revised version of his story resulting in his arrest. A fresh police report filed by police early Tuesday says that Mathews told police that Sherin did drink her milk, but only because he forced her to and in the process she choked to death. According to the police report, "She was coughing and her breathing slowed. Eventually, Wesley Mathews no longer felt a pulse on the child and believed she had died. Wesley Mathews then admitted to removing the body from the home." Sherin Mathews originally went missing on October 7 and her step-father did not come forward with the truth until the discovery of her body on Sunday. Police kept up the search using drones, helicopters and sniffing dogs and they eventually found the little girl's body in a culvert near Mathews' home.
Mathews and his wife adopted Sherin after she was abandoned by her real mother in India. He is in jail for first-degree felony injury to a child and faces up to a life sentence if convicted.
