Gowdy Opens Investigation of DOJ, FBI Related to Clinton

Trey Gowdy, House Oversight Committee Chairman and Bob Goodlatte, House Judiciary Committee chairman have announced they are officially opening a joint investigation into the FBI's criminal investigation of Hillary Clinton. Some questions they want answered include why the FBI kept their probe of Trump campaign officials like Paul Manafort while openly discussing their investigation into, then Secretary of State and presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.

Gowdy and Goodlatte released the following statement:

"Our justice system is represented by a blind-folded woman holding a set of scales. Those scales do not tip to the right or the left; they do not recognize wealth, power, or social status. The impartiality of our justice system is the bedrock of our republic and our fellow citizens must have confidence in its objectivity, independence, and evenhandedness. The law is the most equalizing force in this country. No entity or individual is exempt from oversight. Decisions made by the Department of Justice in 2016 have led to a host of outstanding questions that must be answered."

Gowdy and Goodlatte want to discover why the FBI decided to publicly announce an investigation of Secretary Clinton's mismanagement of classified material while keeping their investigation into the Trump camp under wraps. Another issue they take offense with is the FBI's decision to take on full decision making in regards to charging or not charging Secretary Clinton over the Department of Justice. They also want an explanation for the timeline regarding these choices.

Both the DOJ and FBI have found themselves under fire lately since the discovery that James Comey had written a letter exonerating Clinton before the investigation was complete and in fact even before Clinton and her top aides had even been interviewed.
