It was on Sunday at 2 pm that the victim had sat under a tree after having a dispute with her family when a drunk man forced himself on her. Instead of helping, bystanders near a railway station in Vizag did nothing to help the poor woman.
One man just snapped a photo of the assault. On the bright side, the photo he took was able to identify and document the crime. As a result, police arrested 23-year-old G Shiva who is accused of approaching her while intoxicated and raping her. He has been charged under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code which applies to rape.
An Indian police officer was angry no one helped the woman, "Apparently, she was very weak as she had not eaten for several hours and was sleeping on the footpath under the shadow of a tree, when her attacker, in an inebriated condition assaulted her sexually. Instead, some of them were more interested in capturing the incident on their mobile phones. After some time, a driver shot a short video of it and brought it to our notice. It clearly shows how the people have become insensitive to attacks on women."
