Palestinian Arrested for 'Good Morning' Message on Facebook

In a perfect example of the tragically ridiculous state of the current Israeli Apartheid, a Palestinian man was arrested for posting "Good morning" on Facebook. His 'good morning' message was translated to "Attack them" in Hebrew. Not a single arresting officer on the scene or involved in the arrest spoke Arabic. The Palestinian construction worker posted a photo from the site on the West Bank where he is currently working. In the picture, he is leaning against a bulldozer aside the "good morning" caption in Arabic.

You can't make this up: Israel arrests Palestinian because Facebook translated 'good morning' to 'attack them' https://t.co/mE6WXdrF7d pic.twitter.com/2SSwplXsb2
— Haaretz.com (@haaretzcom) October 22, 2017

According to Facebook's auto-translate, "good morning" translated to "attack them" in Hebrew and "hurt them" in English. Any native Arabic speaker would instantly have noted the auto-translate error. The police in the Judea and Samaria district confirmed the details behind what would be a comedy of errors were it not so systemically sad. In Israel, to have full citizenship (and as a result, civiil rights) you have to be able to prove Jewish heritage.

Israel uses fake pretexts to get rid of entire Palestinian families & rigged permit laws to destroy all their homes https://t.co/kjnh068iix
— Sarah Wilkinson (@swilkinsonbc) October 22, 2017

The original inhabitants of the area, the Palestinians, are oppressed as second class citizens and faced with disproportionate force regularly. Human rights groups worldwide often question the treatment of the Palestinians, for instance, mass jailings of social media users who supposedly "fit a profile" of possible terrorists. Pre-crime units, anyone?
