A black man was arrested Saturday in the Kiddieland section of the North Carolina State Fair. Police records show he is also a registered sex offender.
The suspect has been identified as Alexander James Cogdell, 35, of 1401 North Heritage Street in Kinston, was wearing an ankle monitor as part of his parole condition. Such alerted the authorities of his violation.
The deputies discovered Cogdell with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office before 7 p.m. at the State Educational Building in the Kiddieland section.
Authorities, however, acknowledged that Cogdell was cooperative when he was taken into custody. He was at the time attending the fair with his family.
Cogdell being a registered sex offender has restrictions on the places he could go to. He is not supposed to be in such premises as a state fair where there would be a lot of children in attendance. A registered sex offender is seen as a potential threat to vulnerable children.
Cogdell has since been charged anew with being a registered sex offender in place with children on the premises. He is detained at the Wake County Detention Center under $20,000 bond.
