Two days ago, there was a terrible car accident in Ukraine, where a Lexus car drove into a crowd and killed five people in Kharkiv.
Authorities have now confirmed details about the accident. The 20 year old daughter of an a local oil and property tycoon, Mr Vasily Zaitsev, was identified as the driver who cause the mortal accident.
She had to be protected by her private security detail from an angry mob who surrounded her immediately afterwards.
Mr Zaitsev said the following day: "There is great grief in our family. She has been driving for two years and she's never had any violations. The girl was sober, she was traveling with her friend. We still have not been given a chance to talk, they immediately detained her in jail."
The tycoon stated it was unclear what exactly had caused the accident and “judgments should not be made simply on social media posts”. He of course tried to defend his daughter best he could: “She is in a state of shock and says she did not violate the rules of the road but drove through a green light,”
Police reports detail that the crash occurred about 8:45 PM on Wednesday evening when a Lexus 4x4 driven by Miss Zaitseva was involved in an incident at the intersection of Sumskaya and Bursatskaya streets, in the heart of the historic university city of Kharkiv.
Witnesses confirm that the vehicle travelled at high speed and then hit a Volkswagen Touareg before mounting the pavement and skidding through a crowd of people waiting for the lights to change at a pedestrian crossing.
Miss Zaitsev will be released from prison this weekend. The case will go to trial by the end of the year.
