A 31-year-old illegal immigrant was convicted in a German court for raping a 23-year-old woman in front of her boyfriend. Authorities say Eric X confronted the couple and threatened them both with a saw before raping the woman. The man hails from Ghana and sought asylum in Germany after being rejected asylum in Italy but was denied by Germany also.

During the rape, Eric X also stole a speaker and $7 from the victims. At his trial, Eric X insulted his victims saying, "If the court says the DNA fits, then I have to call the girl a prostitute. Anyone who supports this girl who claims to have been raped is the dirtiest person on earth." Authorities did not make it clear how the man was allowed to stay in Germany despite his asylum request being denied. After Eric X was led into the courtroom in shackles, a psychiatric expert testified that he was highly dangerous to the public.
The case has renewed outrage in Germany after a series of high-profile crimes committed by people seeking asylum over the last several years has made the nation's people wary of the immigration process. Eric X was found guilty of the rape and robbery and sentenced to 11 and a half years in prison.
